American Idol Producers Pay $22 Million California Winery

Fun Fact: The Producers of “American Idol” Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick also make wine together.

After establishing a thriving winery and vineyard operation near Paso Robles, California, the two decided to forgo their grape production.

Now, for the first time, their vineyard known as Villa San-Juliette is on the market for $22 million.

Their sumptuous display is the fruit of a long-time dream.

From ‘Idol’ to vino

Childhood friends from Liverpool, the two grew up to become the Emmy-winning producers of the hit reality show.

In 2005, on the strength of the success of Idol, they set their sights on vino. They picked up the vineyard for $5.2 million, according to property records. Given the old vine grapes produced in the region, the couple knew the property would be a winner.

“When we arrived in Paso Robles, we were immediately impressed by the abundance and beauty of the vineyards there, and decided to investigate the possibility of purchasing and establishing our own,” Warwick said in a statement. communicated.

Warwick and Lythgoe razed the existing house on the property and built a Tuscan-style tasting room and cellar.

“With our long experience of aesthetics and set design from our 50 years in the television business, we were very adamant about the style of the buildings and the atmosphere we wanted to create,” added Warwick. “It was a long, difficult and expensive process, but we finally created the vineyard of our dreams.”

The winery is located in California’s fastest growing wine region, about a three hour drive from Los Angeles to the south or San Francisco to the north.

The 160-acre estate includes two Tuscan-style villas that feature six combined bedrooms, six bathrooms, a pool, tasting room, vineyards, and winery facilities.

Additionally, the property has expansive lawns with gorgeous views, which serve as a picturesque backdrop for weddings and other events.

The estate offers 12 styles of wine, which “consistently receive the highest ratings and accolades,” the listing says. The vineyard is capable of producing an impressive 30,000 cases per year.

Lythgoe is the creator and executive producer of “So You Think You Can Dance,” on which he served as a judge for the first 16 seasons. He also created the 2009 “Superstars of Dance” competition.

Lythgoe and Warwick co-produced the primetime hit “American Idol.” In 2019, Lythgoe also left Las Vegas, listing his Mediterranean mansion in Sin City for $5 million.
