Auto Vino, formerly located in Menlo Park, brings luxury car storage, wine production and tasting, outdoor dining and event space to Industrial Road in San Carlos.
On Monday, the San Carlos Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for the business located at 380 Industrial Road, just south of the building formerly occupied by Orchard Hardware Supply.
Most of the interior of the 14,740 square foot building, which was previously used for warehousing and manufacturing, will be used to store exotic cars. But there will also be space to produce, store and taste wine, as well as space to hold indoor events for up to 35-40 people.
In the parking lot, an outdoor dining area surrounded by wine barrel planters will contain two trailers, a vintage food bus and a pizza oven. Tables and chairs in the middle of the space will provide guests with a great place to sit and dine.
Approved hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Corporate and private events will be scheduled Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and events will be “completely closed” at 10 p.m., according to the company.
The outdoor dining area will occupy approximately 13 of the 71 parking spaces available on site.
The company received a warm welcome from commissioners and neighbors.
Phil Giurlani told the commission he started Auto Vino 15 years ago in Menlo Park and had to move due to Facebook’s expansion in the area.
“We’ve been looking for a new space for four or five years now,” Giurlani said. “I stumbled upon this, and I think we lucked out with the perfect location. We are excited to open up and start meeting our neighbors and start doing business in San Carlos.
