“The Great Western is one of my favorite wine regions in Australia, as is Shiraz, so this is a really special prize to win,” said the 29-year-old.

“I’m incredibly lucky to have a great team around me. Our winemakers always provide us with excellent fruit, and all members of our winemaking, cellar and laboratory teams constantly support, guide and advise me.

“Such a privilege”

“The whole team deserves congratulations on this award and it is such a privilege to be part of the hard work and history that has gone into the development of the Dorrien Estate Winemaking team.”

The winning drop gives off notes of dark berries, plum and hints of spice that rise in the mouth, leaving velvety tannins to finish.

“Shiraz from this region is elegant, generous and refined, often reminding me of the northern Rhône,” she said.

“The area is right on the Great Dividing Range and is slightly elevated allowing for hot afternoons and long cool nights.

“The wines have a lovely lifted character of black pepper, spice and licorice – very exciting wines from the region, I love that.”

Her career in the wine industry began in 2011 when she made her first vintage in the region.

She then became a laboratory technician at Vinpac in 2012 before joining the Pinnacle Drinks winemaking team in 2017.

After studying at Charles Sturt University and graduating in 2021, Brenda took over the Great Western and Heathcote portfolios, with 2021 being her first vintage with the region.
