Column: Wines under 30 for the month of August

Six wines from BC Liquor stores on sale this summer

In this article, I again bring you my wine recommendations for sale in BC Liquor stores this month. Each month BC Liquor Stores has a different selection of wines for sale, so I usually go through what is on sale and decide what I would like to buy or try. This month, I’m focusing on wines valued under $ 30. These wines will be on sale until September 4, 2021, while stocks last.

Cecchi 2016 Chianti Classico Storia Di Famiglia – taking advantage of the formidable 2016 vintage in Tuscany, this is an everyday great wine from a very experienced Chianti producer. It is a wine made from 90% Sangiovese and 10% from other grape varieties. It is a simple wine which ages in the bottle for two months and which will provide immediate tasting pleasure with good structure and good fruit content. It’s on sale this month, reduced from $ 19.99 to $ 16.99.

Frei Brothers 2018 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – While Napa is getting a lot of attention, there are many excellent Cabernet Sauvignon wines from other parts of California that offer tremendous value. This is especially true in a rebounding vintage like 2018. The Alexander Valley has warm days and cool nights, which promotes full ripening of the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Frei Brothers is a very experienced winery, producing wines in Sonoma County for over a century. You can expect full bodied, tannic wines that will hold up well for up to five years. It is on sale from $ 29.99 to $ 26.99.

Chateau Ste. Michelle 2016 Red Blend Indian Wells – California isn’t the only place in the United States to produce great wines. Our Washington neighbors have wonderful wineries, such as Chateau Ste. Michele. It is a blend of 54% Syrah, 27% Merlot, 7% Malbec, 4% Grenache, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, one-percent Cinsault, one percent Barbera, one percent Mourvèdre. This is another very affordable ready-to-drink wine that gives you lots of fruit and quality. The predominance of Syrah and Merlot should make this wine quite smooth on the palate, while offering you wonderful aromas of black fruits. Its price is reduced this month from $ 29.99 to $ 24.99.

Chapoutier 2019 Côtes du Rhône Belleruche – Côtes du Rhône wines, which are a blend of Grenache and Syrah grapes, always appeal to a crowd because they have a good fruit flavor, high intensity and punch. They don’t need a lot of ventilation, so you can start enjoying them right away. Chapoutier is one of the most respected wineries in the Rhône, so it’s a steal this month as it goes from $ 19.99 to $ 15.99.

Santa Carolina 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Reserva Leyda – can you get a decent white wine for under $ 15? It’s a great summer drink from a quality Chilean wine producer. It’s hard to imagine how a wine produced from 30 different lots in the Leyda Valley can deliver such quality at this price point. Expect good acidity and citrus flavors. You can’t go wrong, as it is on sale from $ 13.99 to $ 10.99.

See Ya Later 2019 Rosé Nelly – for summer I like a rosé every now and then. Pick up a leaflet on a fun wine from a quality BC vineyard. It is a semi-dry wine which is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir. It will be fruity with notes of strawberry and cherry. It’s reduced this month from $ 15.99 to $ 14.99.

Until next time, good drink!
