Spend the night camping in this southern Minnesota winery!

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial and official start of summer in Minnesota. Many families are packing their bags and heading north to spend time away from home with friends and family. But what if you could get away from it all, leave it all behind and not have to drive for hours? A Lonsdale-area vineyard offers a unique camping experience that takes place just steps from growing vines. Prairie Woods Farm Vineyard The camp only has ONE campsite, but it is award winning. Here’s what you need to know about camping at this nearby location.

According to HipCamp.com, the vineyard was a Bis 2022 NM finalist, and is described by the website as having “Just a site [which] means relaxed and quiet camping! Pitch a tent and recharge your batteries at Prairie Woods Farm! 35 minutes south of the Twin Cities, 7 miles west of I-35 at the Northfield exit. The site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and stunning vineyard views with incredible sunsets most nights. Retreat to the “She shed” or stroll through the vineyards or woods.”

The price for camping, via HipCamp.com, is $35 a night, with a room for just 4 people. Prairie Woods Campground is therefore a very intimate place. The sunsets are said to be spectacular as you gaze out over the vines, towards the hills, enjoying the peaceful solitude and natural calm that will follow you out of your tent and into the rows of growing grapes.

While you enjoy your camping experience, you may not realize that you are actually in the heart of Minnesota wine country, as the vineyard has several other wineries located nearby. HipCamp.com states that “within a few square miles there are 4 different vineyards growing over 30 tons of grapes for local wineries.” Next Chapter in Montgomery, Vintage Escapes in Killkenny, Mousse sparkling wines in Jordan or Cannon Valley in Cannon Falls.

With only one campsite available, you’ll need to book early because the warmer weather will mean more people want to get out and enjoy the best Minnesota has to offer.
