The Grocer’s New Product Awards 2021: Alcoholic beverages | Events and awards

Winner: Admiral’s Old J Pineapple Spiced Rum

Rum has recently seen a high-end revival, with a host of new flavor combinations and contemporary twists on supermarket shelves. The Admiral’s Old J range, with its colorful handcrafted design, is the perfect example of this shift in the market, captured by its latest addition for 2021, a spicy pineapple flavor made from a blend of 11 different flavors plus Caribbean rum. With a sweet tropical kick, enhanced with subtle hints of vanilla, its quality is high enough to be used for ‘everyday sipping’ and tasty enough to splash in cocktails as well.

The judges were immediately drawn to the enticing pineapple aroma of this spirit and the flavor did not disappoint. They could also clearly taste the vanilla notes as stated on the product. Overall, the consensus was that this rum was a great value and truly innovative product with a bold and eye-catching label that would stand out on the shelf very well.

Strongly recommended: OPIHR Gin & Tonic with a touch of orange

Finalists:

  • 1881 Gin Tiffin
  • Gin with passion fruit and vanilla blossom BLOOM
  • High water cucumber and seltzer mint
  • Ruddy Fine Lockdown Gin
